Capability Maturity Model Integration: CMMI Training
CMMI – Capability Maturity Model Integration is a process improvement approach that provides organizations the essential elements of effective processes, which will improve the performances of organizations. It is a process improvement that includes identifying your organization’s process strengths and weaknesses along with improving the process towards turning weaknesses into strengths. CMMI can be used to guide a process improvement in a single project, a section or an entire organization. Processes are rated through its maturity levels and the characteristics of maturity levels can be stated as:
- Level 1 – Initiation
- Level 2 – Managed
- Level 3 – Defined
- Level 4 – Quantitatively Managed
- Level 5 – Optimizing
Levels of Maturity in CMMI:
Initiation: In this stage, project is just initiated and the processes remain unpredictable.
Managed: In this stage, the processes are characterized for projects. Most of the times, these processes are reactive.
Defined: In this stage, the process characterized for projects are proactive.
Quantitatively Managed: In this stage, the processes of projects are measured and controlled.
Optimizing: Here, in this stage, the focus is entirely on process improvement.
Three interest areas in CMMI:
- Product and Service Development – CMMI for Development (CMMI-DEV)
- Service Establishment, Management – CMMI for Services (CMMI-SVC)
- Product and Service Acquisition – CMMI for Acquisition (CMMI-ACQ)
These are the basics on CMMI. All this knowledge on CMMI and its maturity level classifications need to be grabbed by any profession looking forward towards attaining a CMMI Certification.
